'Slayers Silence Doubters!

Ap wire...Dragons may just be mythical fairytale creatures, but there was nothing mythical about the INS Dragonslayers 16-5 drubbing of the Santa Clara Mad Dogs yesterday. All week long ESPN broadcasters had questioned whether the 'Slayers 20-6 win last week had been a fluke. Scoops Maynard answered that question with an exclamation point as he crushed a two-run homer as the second batter in the 1st inning. Jason "Wheels" Dominguez followed with a double to knock in Joanna "PeeWee Reese" Couluris, then scored when Liz "Cannon Arm" Phillips ripped a single down the line to make it 4-3 in the 1st inning. That was as close as the Mad Dogs would get.

By the time Jeremy "Money on the Mound" Schultz came in to pitch in the 4th inning, the 'Slayers had a 12-4 lead. Money, in his first appearance on the year, threw 3 pitches and recorded 3 outs. Defensively, the 'Slayer's special weapons team paid off handsomely as Loretta "Bowl 'em Over" Tanner and Oliver "Willie Mays Hayes" Deng combined on a brilliant relay to shut down the only offensive threat the Mad Dogs mounted. Deng, known for his defensive prowess in the outfield, redeemed himself by misplaying a mammoth blow earlier in the game. Deng commenting on his defensive gem said "It was an adventure out there today. Luckily my God-given speed allows me to run down balls that normally would fall for hits. It was really Tanner who, by knocking the runner out coming into 2nd, made the play a great one."

Offensively, Scoops Maynard, "Hit 'em where they 'Ain't" Goodwin, and Joanna "PeeWee Reese" Couluris were scoring machines, scoring 8 runs between them. Mike "The Bomber" Vannucci, Kevin "Daddy Warbucks" Laughlin, Joel "Special K" Vincent, and John "The Babe" Krejcha all knocked in two RBI's each, with Yvonne "Don't throw the Ball so Hard Kevin" Hernandez, Ken "Gimme the Ball" Beames, Lydia "Wrecking Crew" ONeill, and Willie Mays Hayes Deng adding RBI's to put the game out of reach.

The 'Slayers try to stay undefeated next Tueday at Twin Creeks. Game time 5:30.
