DRAGONSLAYERS BOUNCE BACK !!
The Cinderella Story Continues

Sunnyvale....Last night, the Dragonslayers showed the only thing to do when you fall off the horse is to get right back on. Coming off their worst offensive showing of the year, the 'Slayers crushed 26 hits, including 10 in the top of the 7th inning, to post a 19-12 win over a persistent Air Systems III team. The game was close in the early going but the well balanced INS squad put up 5 runs in the middle innings to stake themselves to a 7-2 lead. Air Systems wasn't going to go down without a fight as they stormed back to take a 10-9 lead. That's when the sleeping giant awoke. INS exploded for 9 runs in the top of the 7th to put the game out of reach.

Offensively, the Dragonslayers were led by Liz "Cannon Arm" Phillips who went 3-5, including 2 hits in the 7th, had 2 RBI's and scored a run. She also sparkled in right field just daring opposing runners to go from first to third on a single. Steve "Gallopin' Ghost" Leger continued his run to glory going 3-3, scoring a run, and doing his best Hoover vacuum imitation at first. Loretta "9 iron" Tanner came into the game cold after an injury to starting 3rd baseperson Kelly Blohowiak (gotta be PC) and quickly shut down an Air Systems rally with a key defensive play. At the plate, she went 1-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Jeremy "Money on the Mound" Schultz went 1-3 with a run scored. He struggled a little on the mound but may have won a new place for himself in the 'Slayer outfield. In as shrewd a move as there is, manager/coach Kim "Hit 'em where they Ain't" Goodwin moved Jeremy to right center where he came up with an amazing double play. He grabbed a sinking line drive at his shoe tops and without missing a beat, fired onto first to get the runner. "Scoops" Maynard continued his hot hitting going 2-2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI to raise his average to a clean .800 for the year. Ross "Strike out the Side" Roesner continued his dominating presence on the mound holding Air Systems to just 4 runs. He also contributed a triple, 2 doubles and 2 RBI's at the plate. Jason "Wheels" Dominguez, Kim Goodwin, Joel Vincent, Joanna Couluris, Megan Hughes, and Steve Mendez, all contributed 2 hits to the potent Dragonslayer attack. John "Green Light" Krejcha continued his amazing run at the plate and amazed the pro-Dragonslayer crowd with his aggressive baserunning calls from the 3rd base box. Krejcha was quoted as saying, "If the balls in play, I'm sending them home." Manager Goodwin was unavailable for a post game comment.

The only dark note on the evening was the injury to two of the 'Slayers key players. Third baseperson Kelly Blohoviak injured her wrist on a sharp line drive in the 3rd inning. X-rays appear to be negative and she is currently day-to-day. Joel Vincent may not have been as lucky. Vincent injured his hamstring scoring on a Jeremy Schultz single in the 7th. The injury appeared serious and Vincent's season may be over.

The Dragonslayers have a bye next week and will take their 4-1 record into play on Tuesday, May 27th at 5-30pm on field 2.
